Happy Valentine’s Day!
We just returned from the best dinner we’ve had so far on our trip – and we’ve been travelling for 8 months soon! Today was Valentine’s Day and even though Danes aren’t huge on the whole Valentine’s thing (check out our comments on A Cruising Couple’s post on Valentine’s Day around the world) we gave in and splurged on a fancy dinner.
The other day we walked past a place called Sushiclub – and it looked sooo fancy. And when we decided to do something nice for Valentine’s we just knew we had to go there.
Here’s the thing. I love sushi. Lovelovelove! I could eat it for every meal everyday! Seriously. I actually pretty much did that when I lived in Berkeley for four months in 2012. I just can’t get enough!
And it’s been so long since we’ve had sushi. So there was no doubt about it: Sushiclub it was! And boy, we were well fed…
They had a very fancy (and expensive!) Valentine’s special which we didn’t get. It was just too much. So we went with the à la carte sushi and ended up ordering two rolls each.
We had the New York Roll (salmon, cucumber and avocado) and Crazy Roll (shrimp, avocado and creme cheese inside and salmon around it – yum!). They were both very tasty – but the Crazy Roll was definitely the best.
I have to say that this is the best sushi I’ve ever had. Sushi in Denmark is very expensive, so we normally go for the cheaper places where the sushi is nothing special. But this was something else. Somebody please send me a large check so I can go here everyday – thankyouverymuch. ;)
We just wanted to see the dessert and coffee menu because we wanted to enjoy a cappuccino in the beautiful restaurant. But when I spotted the creme brulée – there was nothing to do! I had to have it. Jonas was game.
The creme brulée was so good! and it actually came with a brownie as well. Not bad at all!
Yeah, you guessed it: we had the best night ever. The server was extremely polite – nearly too polite! He was observant and made us feel very special. He also applauded our choices from the menu “great choice, miss!“.
The restaurant was extremely neat. The chairs were so comfy and we sat right by the open window and enjoyed the warm evening air. People we dressed super fancy and a dj played great electronic music at just a perfect volume to still talk.
It’s all in the details and this was such a perfect dinner. It’s way more expensive than many other restaurants here in Playa del Carmen, but we got such a great experience here. We paid just over $1,000 pesos in total (including tips) – that’s around $75 USD.
Sushiclub is located on Calle 26 between Av. 5 and 10. Be sure to check it out when you’re in Playa del Carmen. It’s actually a chain and they have restaurants in Mexico, El Salvador, Argentina, Paraguay and Spain – check out their locations on their website.
How did you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
